Police are considering requesting an autopsy on the 11-year-old boy found buried in sand in Brgy. Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental following the release of post-mortem findings and speculation circulating on social media.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office spokesperson Capt. Judesses Catalogo said on Feb. 12 that investigators are revisiting the case in connection with the post-mortem results issued by the Cauayan Municipal Health Office.

“The result of the post-mortem, we cannot somehow argue with that, but we will conduct the investigation as to the result and pattern regarding that,” Catalogo said.

He said one of the options being considered is to conduct a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Catalogo said the move also aims to clarify issues raised online regarding the post-mortem findings, particularly reports of injuries on the victim’s buttocks that police earlier said may have been caused by the insertion of a hard object.

Police said they are now in discussions with the victim’s parents regarding consent for an autopsy examination.

“The parents of the victim are with the police in conducting the investigation,” Catalogo added.

Authorities said investigators initially found no indication of foul play but reassessed the case after the Municipal Health Office reported that the child died of asphyxia due to strangulation and noted the presence of injuries on the buttocks.

Police said affidavits from witnesses have already been secured as part of the ongoing investigation.

The possible autopsy, authorities said, aims to ensure a thorough and evidence-based determination of the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.*
