Police have breakthrough in church driver’s killing

City Police Director Col. Joeresty Coronica*

The police have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of a church driver but are still working to determine the motive, PCol. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod police director, said on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Efren Banaglorioso, 59, a driver for the Bacolod Cosmopolitan Christian Church, was shot dead on Sunday, August 24, by a masked gunman outside the church in Brgy. Taculing. The gunman escaped in a black Mitsubishi Montero Sport.

Coronica said the vehicle was recovered by the police in Don Salvador Benedicto town on Monday.

The Montero’s owner, who is in the business of buying and selling vehicles, told the police that he had lent it to a client who is now considered a person of interest, Coronica said.

The police director said there are more than one person of interest, as there was a driver and a gunman involved.

He said while they have yet to establish a motive, they have a person of interest they believe to be the gunman. They are not releasing his name as they are continuing to gather evidence to pin him down, Coronica said.

In the coming days they may be able to determine the motive for the killing, Coronica added.

“What is important is we have a breakthrough in the investigation,“ he said.*
