The Bacolod City government will no longer purchase another property for the construction of a new Burgos Public Market, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez said Monday, February 26.
They will instead renovate the old Burgos market without disrupting the operations of the vendors inside, he said.
There is a plan to make the Burgos market look like Landers by raising its ceiling height to about 15 meters from the current 9 meters, he said.
A higher roof will be built above without disrupting the market operations, he said.
When the new roof is completed the existing one will be removed, and the necessary improvements will be put in place, Benitez said.
His instructions is for the market to be renovated with the lease disruption to the vendors, he said.
They are also contemplating on providing air conditioning in the market using solar energy but its feasibility is still being studied, it is not final, he added.*
