The number of local government units in Negros Occidental hit by pig deaths from various diseases have increased to 20 and the barangays to 151, the Provincial Veterinary Office reported Tuesday, July 11.

The pig raisers affected are 3,670.

Kabankalan City has culled pigs within the 500 meters radius from its ASF hit areas.

Ricky Moscosa, Kabankalan City Agriculturist, said even before they received the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) positive test results of samples taken from areas hit by pig deaths, they had already cordoned off the areas.

Pigs have tested positive for ASF in barangays Binicuil, Linao and 6 in Kabankalan City, the BAI report showed.

Meanwhile, the provincial Quick Response Team conducted disease investigation and blood sampling collection in Brgy. Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla, and Brgy. Inayawan, Cauayan, following reported cases of pigs showing symptoms of ASF, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

The samples collected will be clinically examined for ASF Viral DNA using the real-time PCR test at the Provincial Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, he said.

The pig owners in the area were advised not to slaughter or sell their pigs while their animals are under surveillance, Diaz added.*
