PDP Negros head may run for Bacolod or nat’l post

Jesus V. Hinlo Jr.*

Jesus V. Hinlo Jr., Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Deputy Secretary General for Visayas and Provincial Council President of Negros Occidental,  said he may run for office in Bacolod City or for a national or partylist position in the 2025 elections.

“For now I am seriously considering the possibility of running, that is the only thing I can tell you,” he said on Thursday, August 1, when pressed for details.

He said PDP, chaired by former president Rodrigo Duterte, is quietly organizing and they will announce their candidates for Negros Occidental and Bacolod City in September.

They may have new faces in politics, he said.

It’s  a hard fight with the resources of the incumbents and the political machineries in the province, Hinlo said.

“The reality is different, we are not crazy, it’s really hard,” he added.

“It’s a hope to put forth a challenge but we also know the reality that in politics you need resources and that’s the hard part,” he said, but added that “If the challengers are willing to fight I’m pretty sure that PDP will be supportive of that”.

Former Victorias City mayor Frederick “Wantan” Palanca has not confirmed if he will run for governor of Negros Occidental, Hinlo said.

If Palanca does not run PDP can choose to align with Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson or another challenger, he said

In Bacolod City they could create a third force or ally themselves with one of the existing political groups, he also said.*
