Palace suspends classes in NIR

Malacañang ordered the suspension of classes in the Negros Island Region on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 10 and 11, with Super Typhoon “Uwan” expected to bring heavy rain and winds over Luzon and Visayas.

Life-threatening conditions continued over Camarines Norte Sunday night as “Uwan” continued to move west northwestward, the state weather bureau Pagasa said.

Siquijor, Negros Oriental and  Negros Occidental were under Signal No. 1  on Sunday.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 106 issued by the palace  on Sunday, government work and classes are suspended on Monday in the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Regions I (Ilocos Region), II (Cagayan Valley), III (Central Luzon), IV-A (Calabarzon), IV-B (Mimaropa), V (Bicol), and VIII (Eastern Visayas) Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, classes are suspended in  Regions VI (Western Visayas), VII (Central Visayas), and the Negros Island Region.

“Agencies responsible for basic, vital, and health services, preparedness and response duties must continue to remain operational,” the circular said.

Malacañang said local governments outside the listed regions are authorized to issue their own class and work suspensions as needed.

Work in private companies will be left to the discretion of their respective heads.*
