Paghimud-os Negros, a civil society organization, is preparing to launch a search for outstanding models of good local governance in Negros Occidental, former governor Rafael Coscolluela, its chairman, said Tuesday, May 23.

They hope to launch the good local governance search later this year and hold the awarding rites for an outstanding city, municipality and barangay of Negros Occidental in January 2024.

He said they are working with Galing Pook Foundation to come up with a criteria that will define good governance at the local level in terms of accountability and performance of duties.

“The search aims to make local governments know what our measures of good local governance are and hopefully to motivate them to meet them,” he said.

Hopefully the awards, which they aim to give annually, will motivate local governments to improve their services, Coscolluela said.

The search or evaluation committee will be composed of representatives from the academe, non government organizations, the Church, Galing Pook and Synergeia Foundation, he said.

The choices of the winner will be non-partisan, we will not be looking at what political party a mayor belongs to, he assured.*
