
More than P500,000 worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes were recovered by policemen inside an abandoned house in Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, on Monday, March 2, the police reported.
Operatives of the City Intelligence Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) were conducting intelligence monitoring in Florence Ville Subdivision, while preparing to serve a warrant of arrest, when they noticed a man carrying a large box emerging from a dark, abandoned house.
Police said the operatives approached the individual, but the man immediately fled up a concrete staircase and escaped.
The suspect reportedly left behind the box he was carrying.
Authorities discovered that the carton contained suspected smuggled cigarettes.
Further inspection of the abandoned house led to the recovery of additional boxes of smuggled cigarettes.
Police said the total value of the confiscated cigarettes is estimated at P519,000.
Authorities are now conducting further investigation to identify the suspect and determine the source and distribution of the recovered cigarettes.*
