One of Bacolod City’s largest hotels is now fully powered by renewable energy.
Citadines Bacolod City signed a power supply agreement on Tuesday, Sept. 16, with renewable energy firm First Gen Corp. (First Gen) for 800 kilowatts (kW) of geothermal power.
The signing was led by Arlene Sy Soriano, First Gen’s Head of Sales and Engagement, and Caleb Han, General Manager of Citadines Bacolod City.
The 800 kW of geothermal power will energize the hotel’s 200 rooms, five amenity areas, five food and beverage outlets, a business lounge, meeting rooms, and a grand ballroom.
The agreement underscores the hotel’s commitment to sustainable operations and increased use of clean energy, Han said.
“As part of The Ascott Limited, we are committed to upholding sustainability through eco-friendly operations and efficient energy consumption,” Han said.
“Our partnership with First Gen allows Citadines Bacolod City to be powered by renewable energy, helping us reduce both our energy intensity and carbon footprint”, he added
Han said that Citadines Bacolod is the first Ascott property in Visayas and Mindanao and the fourth in the country to be powered by renewable energy.
The geothermal power will be sourced from the Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plant, which is owned and operated by Energy Development Corporation (EDC), a subsidiary of First Gen.
“It is our privilege to partner with Citadines Bacolod City as they advance their decarbonization journey,” Arlene Sy Soriano, First Gen’s Head of Sales and Engagement, said.
“Transitioning to renewable energy and reducing carbon intensity is achievable for any business, and we remain committed to supporting our partners in optimizing their energy use”, she said.
Soriano added that geothermal energy is the only renewable source capable of providing 24/7 baseload power, making it a reliable and sustainable choice for large-scale operations.*
