The number of Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) returning to Negros Occidental from Manila and Cebu who have tested positive for COVID-19 are increasing, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Monday, March 8.

This developed amid reports of increasing COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

Lacson said from 58 active COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental, the number has jumped to 116.

Negros Occidental continues to require RT-PCR tests and the quarantine of LSIs on their arrival in the province until their negative results are out, Lacson said, because of a Region 6 moratorium on the national Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Resolution 101.

Resolution 101 no longer allows RT-PCR tests and the quarantine of LSIs on arrival.

If the national IATF insists on implementing Resolution 101, Lacson said he will require passengers arriving in Negros Occidental to undergo RT-PCR tests at least 72 hours before their arrival at their own expense.

Resolution 101 would save the provincial government money as it conducts RT-PCR tests on arriving passengers for free, Lacson said.

But Lacson said he hopes the IATF allows local governments to devise their own protocols on incoming passengers to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Department of Health reported that the COVID-19 positive LSIs who returned to Negros Occidental on Thursday were 6, Friday – 4, Saturday – 9, Sunday -7, and Monday – 6.*
