The Army discovered an arms cache allegedly owned by members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sitio Bandul, Brgy. Maaslob, Calatrava town, Saturday morning, July 8.

Personnel of the 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion of the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police Special Action Force, Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company, and Calatrava police discovered an arms cache believed to be owned by the NPA, the police reported Sunday.

They recovered an M-14 rifle with magazine, live ammunition, M-16 rifle magazines, Garand rifle clips, commercial radios, and subversive documents, the police said.

Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan, 79th IB commander, commended the Masaligan troopers and concerned residents for providing information that led to the seizure of the war materials and documents.

The arms cache was buried in the ground by remnants of the defunct NPA Northern Negros Front, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Forces Company recovered firearms and explosives in Sitio Sakasak, Brgy. Carabalan, Himamaylan City, July 8, the police reported.

The police recovered a homemade shotgun, hand grenade, medical kits, and some personal belongings, which were believed to have been left behind by the NPA rebels during an encounter with 94th Infantry Battalion soldiers on Friday, July 7.*
