
The damage to crops and infrastructure in the Negros Island Region caused by the effects of the southwest monsoon and typhoons Crising, Dante and Emong has hit P185.9 million, an NIR Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) report released Tuesday, July 29, showed.
The damage to crops in Negros Occidental was P97, 265,668 and the damage to schools in Negros Oriental was P88,713,000, it said.
The crop damage affected 3,586.3 hectares and 4,882 farmers.
There were 454 houses damaged and 53 destroyed, the report added.
While the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) placed the death toll at six, the RDRRMC only reported three.
Three of the deaths reported by the PDRRMC were not considered typhoon related, Donato Sermeno III, director of the Office of Civil Defense Negros Island Region, said.
The RDRRMC report said P32.8 million worth of assistance was released to the victims of the weather disturbances, of which P32.5 million went to Negros Occidental and P306,830 to Negros Oriental.*
