The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region destroyed 23,111 confiscated firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices worth P437,778 during a simultaneous disposal operation conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
PRO-NIR said the destruction followed the conclusion of holiday enforcement operations aimed at regulating the sale and use of prohibited fireworks from Dec. 6, 2025 to Jan. 6.
The activity was carried out simultaneously by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, Siquijor Police Provincial Office, and the Bacolod City Police Office, in coordination with local government units and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Police data showed that the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office confiscated the highest number with 16,002 firecrackers valued at P305,022.
The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office seized 5,870 firecrackers worth P63,216.
The Bacolod City Police Office confiscated 1,101 prohibited firecrackers valued at P69,260.
The Siquijor Police Provincial Office secured 72 firecrackers worth P280, while the Regional Mobile Force Battalion–NIR confiscated 33 firecrackers.
PRO-NIR said the items were seized through sustained anti-illegal firecracker operations, inspections, and checkpoints conducted during the holiday season.
Police said the destruction was conducted in designated secure areas within police facilities and followed established safety and environmental protocols.
Authorities said the operation aimed to prevent firecracker-related injuries, fires, and other hazards linked to the illegal sale and use of prohibited pyrotechnics.
PRO-NIR said it will continue working with local government units, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and community stakeholders to strengthen public safety measures and enforce firecracker regulations.
The police urged the public to comply with existing laws and report illegal firecracker activities to authorities.*
