The budget for the Negros Island Region is expected to be discussed at a Technical Work Group meeting set on Friday, August 9, Rep. Emilio Yulo III (Neg. Occ., 5th District) said on Monday.
He noted that Department of Budget and Management and the Department of the Interior and Local Government will be at the TWG meeting.
Also set to attend the meeting are the representatives and governors of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
Yulo said while the budget of the new region was not included in the 2025 National Expenditure Program (NEP) that was prepared before the NIR was signed into law, it can be included during the budget deliberations in Congress.
The budget season in Congress has yet to start, he said.
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez also said while the NIR budget was not included in the NEP, the new region has enough support in Congress for it to be included during the budget deliberations.*
