Negros will have enough pork, chickens for holidays, vet says

The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) assured that there will be enough supply of chicken and pork in Negros Occidental during the holidays.

Acting Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Ryan Janoya said on Monday, Nov. 11, that the PVO is not expecting a shortage as livestock raisers have already prepared for the holidays.

He said that the poultry integrators expect a surge in the demand for chicken meat and have already adjusted their production in preparation for the holidays.

Janoya also said that same goes for pork, there is enough supply in Negros Occidental, as many local government units are now African Swine Fever (ASF) free.

Backyard hog raisers are also helping to meet the demand, he said.

Janoya also said that with the high demand, the PVO is also expecting a slight increase in the prices of meat.

The current average price of poultry meat is at P203.31 per kilogram while pork is at P311.44/kilo, he added.*
