Negros to remain under MGCQ, GCQ request came late: Roque

Negros Occidental and Bacolod City will remain under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) until April 30, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque announced Sunday, April 11.

Roque, who announced the new quarantine classifications around the country, told DIGICAST NEGROS the request of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson to place Negros Occidental under the stricter General Community Quarantine (GCQ) was received by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) late.

He does not know if the IATF would still deliberate on Negros Occidental’s request, Roque said.

Negros Occidental has been under MGCQ, but Lacson on Friday had asked that it be reclassified to GCQ following a surge in COVID-19 cases in the province.

Lacson said he is hoping the IATF will still take up his request.

The Western Visayas Regional IATF and Regional Task Force on Saturday, April 10, passed a resolution endorsing the request for the escalation of Negros Occidental’s status to GCQ to the national IATF.

Roque announced that Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Santiago City, Qurino and Abra would remain under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine until April 30.

Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Viscaya, Batangas, Tacloban City, Iligan City, Davao City, Lanao Del Sur and Quezon would be under GCQ, and the rest of the country under MGCQ, Roque said.
