Negros sendoff of troops Friday; Comelec warns vote sellers, buyers

The official sendoff of security forces for the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City is set on Friday, Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said on Wednesday, October 25.

However, earlier the Army and police had already deployed personnel to election areas of concern, especially those under the red category, he said.

Security will be provided to teachers serving during the BSKE, especially in hinterland areas, until the proceedings are completed, he assured.

Negros Occidental has sufficient security personnel, no augmentation troops need to be sent to the province, he said.

Voters can access their precincts ahead of Election Day using the online precinct finder, Ananoria said.

Ananoria reminded voters not to sell their votes because vote selling is also an election offence.

The COMELEC will be establishing Kontra Bigay desks provincewide where complaints versus vote sellers and buyers can be lodged, he said.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said as of Wednesday there was no election related violence reported in Negros Occidental, and he hopes this can be maintained.

He reiterated his call to the candidates and their followers to avoid violence.

The governor said he expects the campaign to become more intense, especially during the weekend, with the elections set on Monday.*
