The average residential electricity rate of Negros Power has increased to ₱13.1076 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in January, up by ₱1.0635/kWh from the December 2025 rate of ₱12.0441/kWh.
This increase is mainly due to power supply costs and other industry-wide charges that have affected all electricity consumers in the Visayas, Negros Power announced on Friday, Jan 16.
The most significant contributor to the increase is the rise in prices at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where utilities buy electricity when contracted supply is insufficient.
WESM prices increased from ₱6.0405/kWh to ₱7.5031/kWh, or ₱1.4626/kWh for the billing period, Negros Power said.
This was caused by reduced available power supply in the Visayas, combined with limitations in the (High-Voltage Direct Current) HVDC interconnection between Mindanao and the Visayas, which restricted the transfer of additional power into the region, it said.
Several major baseload power plants in the Visayas operated at reduced capacity during the month, it also said.
As a distribution utility, Negros Power does not control these charges, as they are 100 percent pass-through costs mandated by market conditions and regulatory approvals, it said.
The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) also announced on Thursday, Jan. 15, a rate increase of ₱1.0938 per kWh for January.
NOCECO’s rate for January is ₱12.8688 per kWh compared to ₱11.7750 in December. *
