Negros Electric and Power Corp., the joint venture partner of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), now has a temporary office at the second floor of Robinsons East at Burgos Avenue, Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod City.

Negros Power hopes to begin operations on August 1, its president and chief executive officer Roel Castro said Thursday, June 13.

Congress has approved Negros Power’s franchise to take over the power distributions services of Ceneco and the bill is being prepared for transmittal to Malacañang. Hopefully it will be signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. into law, Castro said.

The temporary office houses the Business Operation Center and Customer Care Center of Negros Power.

Castro said they have ensured that their office is welcoming and comfortable for customers.

Negros Power has also already purchased vital equipment needed for its operations, he said.

On day one of their operations they will be ready for their customers, Castro said.

Negros Power will have about 360 organic employees and about 500 to 700 third party employees, he added.

More than 200 Ceneco employees have applied for Negros Power jobs, Castro said.

Castro said in a survey they conducted, they discovered 6,000 illegal connections but they don’t have the authority to take them down since they have not yet taken over Ceneco’s power distribution operations.

He also assured that Negros Power will work at buying the lowest  priced power to try to bring consumer rates down.*
