Negrense tops board exams for second time in 6 months

Engineer Niele Shem Bañas*

Engineer Niele Shem Bañas, a graduate of the Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, topped the October Electronics Technician Licensure Examination (ECTLE), the Professional Regulation Commission announced on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Six months earlier in April he also topped the Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) Licensure Examination.

Bañas, who is from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, was ranked No.1 in the ECTLE with a rating of 93 percent.

Only 999 out of 2,172 takers passed ECTLE.

Bañas, 24, who is currently working at the Victorias Milling Company, told DIGICAST NEGROS that he only had two weeks to seriously study for the ECTLE because he have been busy at work.

In April this year Bañas also topped the ECE board exam with a 91.80 percent rating and began working for VMC.

“I planned to self-review for two months but I could not focus because I already have a job”, he said, adding that “Two weeks before the exams I decided to study and filed for leave at VMC for five days before the exams”.

He said that after taking the ECTLE in Iloilo, he was worried as he realized that he had possibly made some mistakes.

But when the results came out, Bañas said he jumped with joy on learning that he topped the exams.

Bañas said he will now focus on his career as an electronics and communications engineer like his father, Rodel, who is a retired ECE.*
