Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Department of Agriculture Region VI Executive Director Remelyn Recoter, led the distribution of agricultural machineries and cash incentives to Negrense farmers in a ceremony held at the provincial Capitol grounds in Bacolod City Tuesday, July 13.
Seven LGUs – the cities of Himamaylan, Sipalay, and Escalante and the municipalities of Calatrava, Hinoba-an, San Enrique, and La Castellana, and three farmer-associations in the province – Newton-Camingawan-Para Farmers Association in Bago City, Buhing Tubi Diversified Farmers Association in Cauayan, and Batuan Farmers and Farmworkers Association in La Carlota City were the recipients, a Capitol press release said.
They received the machineries that include rotary composters and shredding machines, with a total cost of P9.5 million, through the DA – Bureau of Soils and Water Management and Office of Sen. Cynthia Villar.
The project aims to hasten recycling of biodegradable wastes for organic fertilizers that will also help address waste management and with reference to the “Establishment of Composting Facility for Biodegradable Wastes under National Organic Agriculture Program and Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund”, the press release said.
Meanwhile, 368 rice farmers from the Municipality of Valladolid received Quick Turn Around (QTA) Incentives with a total of P1,008,440.
The QTA/Early Planting project under the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist aimed at responding to the food production and marketing needs of farmers affected by COVID-19 pandemic in the province; it also helped addressed the anticipation of food shortage and availability of rice, especially during the height of the pandemic last year.
Also present in the activity were Board Member Jeffrey Tubola, Engr. Albert Barrogo of DA-Region VI, OPA OIC Dina Genzola, Sen. Cynthia Villar’s political staff for Negros, Arjay Venus, and Ramon Uy Sr., among others.*
