NegOcc provincial gov’t turns over 2 rice mills to farmers’ federation

The Negros Occidental provincial government has delivered two rice mills to the Federation of Irrigators’ Association of Central Negros – Bago River Irrigation System (FIACN-BRIS) Rice Processing Center in Barangay Busay, Bago City, to strengthen support for local farmers and boost the province’s rice production capabilities.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando P. Diaz II said on Friday, Oct. 30, that the new equipment will provide local farmers with access to modern milling facilities.

This completes the end-to-end rice production pipeline supported by the provincial government—spanning certified seed production, planting, cultivation, and harvesting, through to final processing, he said.

Once installed and fully operational, the newly delivered mills will be used primarily for processing commercial palay, Diaz added.

FIACN-BRIS President Pedro Limpangog said that the facilities are also equipped with dryers, allowing farmers to dry their harvest efficiently, particularly during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist’s rice processing center in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City, will be dedicated exclusively to milling organic rice. This separation aims to prevent cross-contamination and preserve the quality and integrity of organically produced grains.

Diaz said the initiative is part of the provincial government’s continuing drive to modernize postharvest infrastructure, empower local farming communities, and advance long-term food security goals.*
