Negros Occidental and Bacolod City recorded 6,367 dengue cases and 17 deaths this year.
There were 4,673 dengue cases and 13 deaths in Negros Occidental from Jan. 1 to Oct. 5 this year, which is a 286.20 percent increase compared to the same period last year, the Provincial Health Office announced on Friday, Oct. 11.
There were 1,210 dengue cases last year.
The PHO also reported that Bago City had the most number of dengue cases in the province at 476.
Mayor Nicholas Yulo said intensified dengue mitigation measures have been implemented in Bago City and he urging the public to cooperate by maintaining cleanliness to eliminate breeding places of dengue carrying mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City has reported 1,694 dengue cases with 4 probable deaths in their 39th week of monitoring.
The figure is 280.7 percent higher compared to the same period last year with only 445 cases and 3 deaths, the CHO said.
The probable dengue deaths were in barangays Estefania, 16, Felisa, and Sum-ag.
Brgy. Taculing has the highest number of cases in Bacolod City with 206 followed by Bata – 152, Mansilingan – 130, Estefania – 129, Villamonte – 109, Mandalagan – 84, Alijis – 83, Tangub – 79, Granada – 74, and Sum-ag – 72.*
