NEA confirms plebiscite results, ends process of appeal: Lapore

The National Electrification Administration’s confirmation of the results of the plebiscite on the joint venture agreement between Central Negros Electric Cooperative and Primelectric Holdings Inc. ends the process of appeal, CENECO general manager Arnel Lapore said Wednesday, September 13.

“The National Electrification Administration (NEA) confirms the final result of the plebiscite as determined, proclaimed, and submitted to it by CENECO, with 98,591 votes for the approval of the JVA, and 6,899 votes against the same,” NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Alameda said in a memorandum on Tuesday, September 12.

Lapore said NEA’s confirmation “ends the process of appeal or protest” of those who intend to question the results of the plebiscite.

Almeda, in his memorandum, also directed CENECO to submit a copy of the JVA to the NEA for its consent in accordance with PD 269 (National Electrification Administration Decree).

“CENECO should be prepared to answer any questions or queries of the NEA on the JVA. Further, the NEA expressly reserves its right to impose further conditions for its consent to the JVA for the protection of the member consumers of CENECO, “Almeda said.

Lapore said NEA will study the contents of the JVA to determine if it will concur or require modifications before it gives its consent.*
