Negros Occidental acting provincial elections supervisor Roberto Salazar*

The campaign period for candidates for president, vice president, senator and party-list groups kicks off Tuesday, February 8, and will end on May 7.

The Commission on Elections starting Tuesday has the authority to regulate the movement of national candidates, who must seek permits to hold campaign activities, Negros Occidental acting provincial elections supervisor Roberto Salazar said.

The Comelec has deputized barangay officials to help monitor compliance of candidates with campaign rules and minimum COVID-19 health protocols and to report violations, he said.

Rules for house to house campaigns, motorcades and rallies will depend on the COVID-19 alert levels in areas where they are being held, Salazar said.

Removal of campaign materials of national candidates outside designated common poster areas will begin, he said, but meetings have to be held with those tasked to do it.

Salazar said campaign materials of national candidates should not exceed 2 by 3 feet in size.

The rule does not cover local aspirants since their campaign period has not started, yet, he said

The local campaign period starts March 25 and ends on May 7.*
