Mayor Gerry M. Rojas recently led the groundbreaking of the Hon. Jesus D. Santiago Memorial Hall/Multi-purpose Building in Murcia, Negros Occidental.
To be constructed at its original location at the block across the public plaza and the public market, the two-storey building will house the Murcia Municipal Circuit Trial Court and a TESDA-accredited training center for the town’s out-of-school youth.
Murcia Vice Mayor Johnny P. Reosura and the Sangguniang Bayan members joined the mayor at the groundbreaking rites on January 31, a press release from Murcia said Tuesday, February 6.
“Vice Mayor Johnny Reosura and I have long dreamed of constructing a new building for our municipal trial court. This event today manifests that infrastructure projects and other goals can be achieved speedily when the Executive Branch, represented by my office, and the Legislative Branch, represented by Vice-Mayor Reosura’s office, work with unity and cooperation,” Rojas said.
“With the construction of this new building, we will be finishing the modernization of the structures along this side of the commercial area owned by our local government. We have already finished the construction of the new bagsakan / food park, while the structures for the coffee houses are almost completed. We will continue with the upgrade of our infrastructure as one of the major thrusts of my administration,” Rojas added.
The town has enjoyed an infrastructure boom under the administration of Rojas, who is now serving his second term, the press release said.
It cited the of the plaza, the construction of the legislative building, a multi-purpose building which houses the tourism office, senior citizens’ office and municipal library, and the renovation of substantial parts of the public market.
On-going projects include the pioneering landfill with segregation / decomposting / mini-forest functions at Brgy. Cansilayan and a new much-wider public cemetery at Brgy. Caliban, among other projects, the press release said.

Soon, Murcia will construct a larger office for the agriculture department, which will include a warehouse and facilities for biological pests/weed control.
This new bulding will rise beside the newly-constructed Caliban Barangay Hall at the new public cemetery area, it added.*
