Heavy rains and flooding caused an estimated P29.5 million in damage to infrastructure and crops in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, as of Monday, July 21.

Reynald E. Horegue, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (MDRRMO) of Moises Padilla, reported on Tuesday, July 22, that overflows in Barangays 1 and Montilla remain impassable due to high water levels.

The majority of the damage, amounting to P21.5 million, was sustained by the town’s roads. Most of them were gravel and unpaved roads, he said.

Agricultural losses were placed at P4.5 million, affecting rice fields, high-value crops, livestock, and fisheries.

Damage to houses reached P1.9 million.

Horegue said a decision on whether to place the town under a state of calamity has not yet been made.*
