A 29-year-old college teacher died while his back rider was injured after their motorcycle crashed into a parked truck along the highway in Brgy. San Miguel, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, early Tuesday morning, July 29.
The fatality was identified as Anthony Varon, a teacher at the La Carlota City College and a resident of Purok 2, Brgy. San Miguel, La Carlota.
He was driving a Yamaha Aerox with a passenger identified as Edwin Javier, 29, a driver and resident of Sitio Dulom in the same barangay.
Police reports said that at around 4 a.m., the motorcycle was traveling from La Carlota’s poblacion area heading toward Brgy. San Miguel when it hit a green Isuzu truck that was parked along the road.
The parked truck was registered under Luiz Divinagracia of La Castellana,
The impact caused both Varon and Javier to fall hard onto the cemented road, sustaining injuries on various parts of their bodies.
Responders from the La Carlota City Rescue Unit rushed both victims to the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial Hospital, where Varon was declared dead by attending physician Dr. Sarah Valencia.*
