Most wanted for Anti-VAWC law violation arrested in NegOr

The police arrested a provincial-level most wanted person in Brgy. Sto. Niño, San Jose, Negros Oriental, on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office said the suspect, ranked No. 6 on the provincial most wanted list, was apprehended at around 11:30 a.m. by personnel of the Valencia Municipal Police Station.

Authorities said the arrest was carried out by virtue of a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 37 in Dumaguete City for violation of Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

Police said the law penalizes acts of physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse committed against women and children by a spouse, former partner, or any person with whom the victim has or had a dating or intimate relationship.

The suspect is currently under the custody of the Valencia Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

NORPPO said the arrest underscores its continuing efforts to enforce court orders and protect women and children from abuse across Negros Oriental.*
