Mayor Rex Jalando-on is urging all La Carlota City government employees and barangay workers to come together in support of the evacuees affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.
“We are more than just public servants, we are servant leaders – leaders who act with compassion, integrity, and a commitment to our community, especially in times of crisis,” Jalando-on said in a Facebook post on Friday, Dec. 20.
“This is the time to step up, offer your skills, and volunteer at the evacuation centers. The victims of the eruption need us, and every helping hand makes a difference,” he said.
City Social Welfare head Angie Gelongo said volunteers are needed for the following tasks:
*Data recording and processing – to accurately record information about displaced families, their needs, and conditions to ensure no one is left behind;
*Cooking and food distribution – to help prepare and distribute meals;
*Entertainment and mental health support – to offer emotional support, activities, and entertainment to uplift the spirits of evacuees, to help them cope during this difficult time; and
*Clean-up and sanitation – to ensure evacuation centers remain clean and safe.
“This is our chance to demonstrate the power of unity and compassion. Our communities are relying on us to help rebuild their lives, restore their hope, and remind them that no one is ever alone in the face of disaster,” Gelongo said.*
