Marañon expected to run for 2nd district congressman

Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon III is expected to run for congressman of the 2nd district of Negros Occidental in 2022, Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante, United Negros Alliance (UNegA) secretary-general, said today, February 2.

Marañon, who is UNegA chairman and a former congressman, is on his third and last term as mayor of Sagay City.

His cousin Leo Rafael Cueva is the current congressman of the second district.

Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. may run as mayor of Sagay City.

UNegA now has 13 mayors as members, with Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson Jr. joining their party, Escalante said.

The mayors of Toboso, Salvador Benedicto, Cadiz, Manapla, Bago City, La Carlota City, San Enrique, Pontevedra, Binalbagan, La Castellana and Moises Padilla are also members of UNegA, Escalante said.

UNegA has a current alliance with Love Negros of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.*
