Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon III filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for congressman of the second district of Negros Occidental before the Commission on Elections at the Social Hall of the Capitol in Bacolod City Wednesday afternoon, October 6.
Marañon, who is a three-term congressman and on his last term as mayor of Sagay, said his priorities in Congress, will be on agriculture to ensure food security, the economy and education that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
All the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) candidates in the second district have already filed their COCs, Marañon, who is chairman of the party, said.
He is also a member of the National Unity Party, and said they have yet to decide whom they will support for president.
In Sagay City, the UNegA candidate for mayor is incumbent vice Mayor Narcisco Javelosa Jr., while running for vice mayor is outgoing Rep. Leo Rafael Cueva.
Cadiz Mayor Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. and Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante III of the second district are also running for reelection.
Sixth District Board Member Valentino Miguel Alonso also filed his COC for reelection before the Comelec at the Capitol Wednesday morning.*
