Man shot in face by uncle during farm altercation

A 31-year-old man is now in stable condition after he was shot in the face by his uncle during a heated altercation in Sitio Kawayan, Barangay Tabu, Ilog, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday, July 8.

Alias “John Rey,” was allegedly intoxicated when he returned to his uncle’s farm carrying a bladed weapon, the police said.

He was reportedly shot by his 47-year-old uncle, alias “Arthur,” a businessman and resident of the area.

Maj. Randy Babor, Ilog Police Chief, said the suspect initially warned the victim to stop scolding construction workers who were building a fence on the farm.

However, the victim later returned appearing agitated and under the influence of alcohol.

A confrontation followed, during which the victim allegedly attempted to attack his uncle, prompting the latter to draw a firearm and shoot him in what he claimed was self-defense, Babor said.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the face and was rushed to the Lorenzo D. Zayco Memorial District Hospital in Kabankalan City for treatment.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the Ilog police.

Babor said the suspect is currently in their custody, as they wait for the victim’s family to decide whether to pursue legal charges.*
