Man found dead beside river in Moises Padilla after suspected electrocution

A 28-year-old man was found dead beside the Binalbagan River in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, July 29, after he was believed to have been electrocuted while fishing.

Police identified the victim only by the alias “Hem,” a laborer and resident of Brgy. Quintin Remo.

The victim’s wife told police that her husband left their home at around 7 a.m. to fish in the river using an improvised electrocution device but failed to return.

A witness later found the victim unresponsive beside the river in Sitio Palaypay at around 11:45 a.m. and sought help from his father, who informed the victim’s family.

The body was brought to a funeral home before the incident was reported to the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station at around 5:30 p.m.

Investigators said the victim may have accidentally electrocuted himself while using the improvised device for electric fishing.

Police requested a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and rule out other possible circumstances.*
