A fish vendor who tried to collect a debt was hacked dead in Sitio Ecogan, Brgy. Minapasuk, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, Aug. 3.
Elisio Cabugnay, 60, a resident of Sitio Mina-antol, Brgy. Hinab-ongan, Calatrava, was hacked several times by Jorrey Sayson, 47, the police reported on Sunday.
The police investigation revealed that Cabugnay went to the suspect’s residence to collect money.
The suspect proposed to pay with rice because of lack of money but the victim refused and became angry, the police report said.
Despite being advised to stay calm, the victim allegedly slapped the suspect’s wife, provoking Sayson to hack the victim multiple times.
The victim was rushed to the Calatrava Municipal Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect surrendered to the barangay lupon with his bladed weapon and was brought to the Calatrava Police Station.*
