A mother and her son were killed after a 10-wheeler truck crashed into their home in Barangay Antipolo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, in the early hours of Friday, January 14.
Killed were 58-year-old Ermie Cordero, and son Jr Cordero, 30.
This was the second time it happened as another truck also rammed into their house in September last year, killing their pet dog.
Police said that the truck driver, 46-year-old Henry Salgado of Binalbagan town, did not notice the curved road, causing him to hit the railings and slam into Cordero’s house.
The two victims were pinned under the sugarcane and it took four hours for rescuers to pull them out.
Ermie’s 12-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries as she slept in another room.
Salgado also suffered injuries and was rushed to a hospital. His 8-year-old son also sustained minor injuries.*
