
The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region presented a proposal to establish a Visayas Seatbelt and Crash Prevention Center during the first quarter meeting of the Regional Development Council–Negros Island Region Infrastructure Development Committee in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
LTO-NIR acting regional director Jeck Conlu on Tuesday, March 10, said the proposed center aims to strengthen road safety programs in the Visayas.
Conlu said the initiative will focus on improving seatbelt compliance, enhancing driver education, and implementing proactive crash prevention strategies.
Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, chairperson of the RDC-NIR Infrastructure Development Committee, delivered the welcome remarks during the meeting.
Officials present during the meeting included Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya, Department of Public Works and Highways Unified Project Management Office project director Melchor Kabiling, and DPWH-NIR OIC regional director Jose Al Fruto.
Representatives from the National Irrigation Administration also attended the meeting.
LTO-NIR said the proposed center will serve as a hub for road safety training, advocacy campaigns, and research programs aimed at reducing road crash incidents in the Visayas.*
