The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday, September 16, approved fare increases for modern and traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJ), public utility buses (PUB), taxis, and transport network vehicle services (TNVS).
The increases will take effect October 4, or 15 days after its publication in a newspaper of general circulation, the LTFRB said in a statement.
The LTFRB, responding to petitions filed by transport groups, “recognized the need for fare increases following the continuing rise in oil prices”, it added.
The LTFRB granted a P1 fare increase for traditional PUJs or from P11 to P12 for the first four kilometers. The fare for succeeding kilometers will be P1.80 or an increase of 30 centavos, it added.
The fare of modern PUJs has also been increased from P13 to P14 for the first four kilometers, plus P2.20 for every succeeding kilometers.
The LTFRB also approved a uniform P2 fare hike for city and provincial buses for the first five kilometers, with an additional 35 to 50 centavos for each succeeding kilometer, depending on the kind of bus.
The LTFRB also increased the flag down rate of taxis and sedan-type TNVS by P5.
The flagdown rate for taxis and sedan TNVS will be P45, Asian utility vehicle/sport utility vehicle TNVS – P55 and hatchback-type TNVS – P35, the LTFRB said.
It said the 20 percent discount for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students will remain.
It consulted with the National Economic and Development Authority and the Department of Energy in reaching its decision, the LTFRB said.*
