Love Negros leaders are set to meet to finalize their lineup for the 2022 polls, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday, September 8.
The filing of certificates of candidacy is set in October.
The Love Negros meeting will include its mayors that are about 18 to 19, he said.
Lacson said all incumbent board members of Love Negros, except for Agustin Ernesto Bascon, are seeking reelection.
They still do not know if Bascon will run for reelection as board member of the fifth district or for mayor of Himamaylan City, he said.
Lacson said they are waiting for the decision of Bascon.
If Bascon runs of mayor he will be challenging incumbent Raymund Tongson of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA).
Lacson said the Love Negros congressmen seeking reelection are Gerardo Valmayor of the first district and Jose Francisco Benitez of the third district.
Former Deputy House Speaker Mercedes Alvarez is expected to run for congresswoman of the sixth district in place of her father, Rep. Genaro Alvarez, Lacson said.
The UNegA congressional bets are Alfredo Marañon III for the second district, Juliet Marie Ferrer for the fourth district and Ma. Lourdes Arroyo for the fifth district.
Lacson said the Love Negros–UnegA coalition may not support a single candidate for president in 2022.
“As it is right now, it is highly possible is that there will be different choices for president, but we will have to wait for the filing of COCs,” he said.*
