Mayor Rowena “Weng” Lopez Lizares led the official opening of the Talisay City Agriculture and Fisheries Council (CAFC) Showroom on Monday, Jan. 5, aimed at providing local producers direct access to the consumer market.

Located in front of the Talisay City Hall, the showroom serves as a dedicated marketplace for farmers and fisherfolk to sell fresh vegetables and various farm products.

The initiative seeks to eliminate middlemen, ensuring higher earnings for producers while maintaining affordable prices for the public.

Lizares emphasized that the project is central to the city’s goal of building a self-sustaining community.

“This is about valuing the people who feed our city,” Lizares said. “By providing this space, we ensure fair income for our producers and make nutritious food accessible to every Talisaynon family.”

The mayor noted that the showroom is part of a broader strategy to achieve food security and inclusive growth. By promoting “proudly Talisaynon” products, the city government aims to create a cycle of economic activity that directly benefits local agricultural workers.

Lizares encouraged residents to support the movement by purchasing local produce at the showroom, noting that choosing local goods helps the community’s most vulnerable livelihoods thrive.*
