The large amount of drugs seized in Bacolod is not alarming, the city is a transshipment point so not all of the recovered illegal substance are intended for sale in Bacolod, Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod City police director, said on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The Bacolod City Police Office reported that 1,065 grams of shabu worth P7.2 million and 975 grams of marijuana valued at P117,000 were seized in 14 operations in Bacolod City from Feb. 17 to 23.
Nineteen persons were also arrested, the report said.
Large amounts of drugs are recovered in Bacolod because it is the center of trade, but it does not mean that all of the supply will be consumed in Bacolod alone, Coronica said.
The drugs are intended to also be distributed to other areas, including in neighboring provinces, he added.
He said while there were drug lords before, now the drug trade is free for all with the advancement of technology.
