There is a downtrend in dengue cases in the ten worst hit local government units of Negros Occidental, but vigilance is needed to prevent an upsurge of cases with rains expected in August and September, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Friday, July 22.

Lacson met with the health workers of the 31 towns and cities of Negros Occidental via Zoom Friday to discuss their response to the rise in dengue cases and to remind them to activate their dengue task forces.

He will also a hold a separate meeting with the mayors of Negros Occidental to discuss their campaigns versus dengue and to remind them to make sure that they have a budget to fight the  virus every year, Lacson said.

As of July 16 the Provincial Health Office recorded 2,375 dengue cases and 11 deaths in Negros Occidental or an 857.66 percent increase from last year.

Lacson said the health officers informed him that their local governments had also allocated funds to fight dengue.

It is good to know that the local governments also have preparations in place against dengue, he said.

The Provincial Health Office is also launching the “Sabayang 4-5-6 sa Negros Occidental” in the top ten dengue-hit local government units of the province   from July 26 to August 2.

“Sabayang 4-5-6” is the implementation of the 4S (search and destroy breeding sites, seek early consultation, self-protection, and say “yes” to fogging only in hotspot areas) strategy.

It will be held in Kabankalan City on July 25 to 26, Calatrava, Binalbagan and Cauayan on July 27, Hinigaran and San Carlos City – July 28, Bago City – July 29, Pontevedra, Cadiz City and Talisay City  – August 2.*
