Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Tuesday, July 28, expressed support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), commending the chief executive’s emphasis on government accountability, socio-economic support, and national sovereignty.
Lacson highlighted the importance of acknowledging the economic challenges everyday citizens face amid shifting global circumstances and inflation.
“I appreciate the President’s commitment to accountability and his recognition of the difficulties that many of our people continue to face, from the rising cost of living to the uncertainties brought about by global events,” Lacson said.
“This awareness is important as we work to ensure that the progress we have achieved is felt not only in our economic indicators, but in the everyday lives of our fellow Filipinos”, he said.
The governor pointed out key administration initiatives aimed at cushioning vulnerable sectors, particularly through healthcare and welfare programs.
“I also welcome the administration’s efforts to sustain the progress we have made, particularly in strengthening our social protection programs and expanding PhilHealth coverage and benefits,” he said.
Touching on anti-corruption efforts and public accountability, Lacson noted that citizens will closely monitor upcoming legal developments following the President’s remarks regarding state investigations and cases expected to be filed through the Office of the Ombudsman.
“At the same time, the President’s statement regarding the cases that the Ombudsman is expected to file will naturally be followed by the public, with the expectation that the wheels of justice will keep turning,” Lacson added.
Lacson cited the administration’s firm stance on territorial integrity, praising the President’s message regarding the West Philippine Sea.
“And of course, his stance on the West PH Sea and our national interest was well received,” the governor noted.
Lacson reaffirmed the commitment of the provincial government of Negros Occidental to work alongside the national government in pursuing shared development goals.
“Looking ahead, I am hopeful that we can build on the progress already made,” Lacson said. “Let us continue to work together, national and local governments alike, to build a more secure and self-sufficient nation.”*
