The Kabankalan City Sangguniang Panlungsod members have  passed a resolution expressing their dismay and disappointment over the hiring of non-Kabankalanon residents by Mayor Benjie Miranda.

Resolution 2022-282 passed during the July 18 SP session said non-Kabankalanon residents were hired to various positions in the city government.

Kabankalan Vice Mayor Miguel Zayco said on Tuesday, July 26, that they are trying to get a formal report on how many non-Kabankalan residents were hired. The initial report they received indicated that there were 23, he said.

The majority hired allegedly came from Silay City, sources said.

About six were reportedly assigned to the Bids and Awards Committee technical working group, while others were assigned to other offices, Zayco said.

The purpose of the resolution was to express the sentiments of SP members and nothing more, Zayco said, pointing out that there have been a lot of Kabankalan residents calling them for jobs.

There was no intent to bully Mayor Benjie Miranda as he alleged, Zayco said.

“We don’t respond to that…it was a professional statement of the body, there was nothing political about it,” Zayco said.

The SP in fact has held two special sessions to act on the requests of the executive, Zayco said.

Zayco noted that Miranda renewed the contracts of job order and casual employees of the previous administration up to July 31, which they appreciate.

“The mayor acknowledges the prerogative of the SP to issue such a resolution and has duly noted their sentiment”, Kabankalan City Administrator Reynaldo Novero said Tuesday.*
