The Committee on Visayas Development at the House of Representatives convened to discuss the needs of the newly created Negros Island Region (NIR) on Wednesday, August 7, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said.
Updates on the establishment of the new region were discussed, including the NIR Internal Rules and Regulations, offices and personnel, the proposed budget, and programs and projects for FY 2025, he said.
“We are committed to driving progress and development in our new region,” Benitez said.
He said an election will most likely be held for the choice of the NIR Regional Development Council chairman.
The NIR is composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.*
