Himamaylan top child-friendly LGU in NegOcc, DTI audit shows

Himamaylan City is Negros Occidental’s top Child-Friendly Local Government Unit, the Department of the Interior and Local Government Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit reported. 

Himamaylan City garnered a 98.97 percent rating, the highest among the 19 municipalities and 13 cities in Negros Occidental, results of an audit conducted last year showed. 

Joining Himamaylan among the top 10 Child-Friendly LGUs in the province are: Bago City with a 95.8 percent rating, La Castellana – 95.50 percent, Hinoba-an – 94.45 percent, Victorias City – 90.50 percent, Silay City – 89.25 percent, Cadiz City – 88.95 percent, Talisay City – 88.23 percent, Manapla – 87.50 percent, La Carlota City – 87.46 percent, and Murcia 86.83 – percent.

With this, the City Government of Himamaylan has finally established the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC), a press release from the city government said. 

Himamaylan conducted a city-wide training with barangay officials and personnel at Acacia Hotel in Bacolod City on July 15 to 16. 

The training was held to solidify the city’s commitment for a safe and conducive environment for children in its 19 barangays, the press release said. 

“Child protection is one of our top priorities to develop, source out, and strengthen in Himamaylan,” Mayor Raymund Tongson said in his speech. 

Organized by the Himamaylan City Social Welfare and Development Office, the participants were introduced to the BCPC Framework along with its functionality and indicators.*
