Help sought for flood victims, Palace says P1.5B aid given

Campaigns are on for donations to help the victims of the recent floods that hit northern Negros Occidental.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, in a press statement, said PHP1,584,850 worth of assistance has been provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, local government units, and private partners to flood-affected families in Region 6 (Western Visayas) and Region 5 (Bicol Region), as of January 7.

Roque, however, did not say how much would be given to northern Negros.

He assured the public that the government continues to provide assistance to families affected by the flooding incidents brought by the tail-end of a frontal system experienced in Region 5 and 6.

Mayor Neil Lizares thanked Senator Sonny Angara today, January, 10, for donating P100,000 for the relief operations in Talisay City.

The Negrense Volunteers for Change delivered 15,000 Mingo meals to residents of 11 flood-hit areas in Talisay, Silay, and EB Magalona on Saturday.

The Diocese of Bacolod has an ongoing campaign for donations for the flood victims of northern Negros Occidental, Bishop Patricio Buzon said.

Talisay City also appealed for donations of used clothing and relief goods for the flood victims.

Donations can be sent to the Human Resource Management Office at the Talisay City Hall, the appeal said.*with a report from PNA
