Healthy, firecracker-injury free holidays drive launched in Negros

The Department of Health launched its campaign for a healthy Christmas and firecracker injury-free holidays in Bacolod City on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The “Ligtas Christmas Healthy Pilipinas” campaign includes the “Oplan Iwas Paputok” drive and the need for the preparation of healthy food for the holidays.

The DOH reported that Negros Occidental had the highest number of fireworks related injuries in Western Visayas from Dec. 21, 2022 to Jan. 6, 2023.

There were 212 cases and Negros Occidental registered the highest at 77 followed by Iloilo province with 64 Aklan – 20, Capiz – 16, Bacolod City – 16, Antique – 10, Iloilo City – 6 and Guimaras – 3.

The 1 to 10 year old age group had the highest number of injuries at 50 percent followed by the 11 to 20 year old group with 31 percent, the DOH also reported.*
