The Negros Occidental provincial government is determining how to apportion the P50 million allocated by the national government for Negrenses whose houses were destroyed and damaged by Typhoon “Tino”.
There were 13,036 destroyed houses and 105, 936 damaged.
Lacson said he will consult with the mayors to determine how best to apportion the funds.
“What we will do is decide whether to give it to those with totally damaged or partially damaged houses. We will prorate how much will go to each LGU based on the reports that we have,” he said.
“It is very difficult to distribute this money because the amount is not enough to cover the actual damages”, Lacson said.
As much as possible the funds should be distributed at the soonest possible time, he said.
It will the LGUs that will submit the list of recipients and the province that will distribute the cash, Lacson said.
He said the problem of some who lost their homes is that they have no land to go back to because it was eroded by the floods.
Lacson said claims of illegal logging in the Mt. Kanlaon area where landslides during Typhoon “Tino” washed down logs has to be determined.
A Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Negros Island Region report said their ground assessment team found no indications that these trees brought down by the floods were illegally cut. They were only uprooted and carried down by severe flooding, it said.*
