The police already have a person of interest in the violent attack that left a 9-year-old girl dead and her two siblings injured in their home in Hacienda Badiang, Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Monday, Feb. 9.

“I believe that the PNP already has a person of interest who will soon be apprehended,” he said.

“The whole of Negros condemns the tragic incident that happened in Silay wherein minors from 4 to 15 years old were brutally attacked, leading to the death of one and the two others are now in the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital. Hopefully they will survive this incident,” Lacson said.

On Monday the reward for information that will lead to the apprehension of the culprit increased to P100,000.

Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) has offered a P50,000 reward. Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego and former Talisay City vice mayor Samuel Siote have also offered an additional P25,000 each.

“The suspect is already identified, so whatever has already been raised as a reward, I think that’s enough,” Lacson said.

He said what is important now is to help the family with the medical needs of the surviving children. More of the provincial government’s focus will be on how to help the family, Lacson said.

The mother of the children, who was working in Saudi Arabia, has already arrived in Negros and the provincial government will get in touch with her, he said.

Benitez said he will also provide assistance.

Lt. Col. Edison Garcia, Silay police chief, said the 4-year-old boy was in stable condition at the hospital and will be ready to talk, while the 14-year-old girl is still in critical condition.

The police hope that the recovery of the two survivors will play a big role in solving the crime.

The investigation was launched after the victims’ father returned home on Saturday to find his three children inside their room with their heads appearing to have been bashed with stones.*
